This is a fantastic family/pet friendly trip out to Hurst Spit and the Castle, especially on a still sunny day. Mudeford Spit is an excellent day out. Drive to Mudeford Quay (20 minutes) and take the ferry or 10 minutes further to Hengistbury Head and walk 40 minutes round to the spit (there is a Land Train to shorten the distance). There is a beach side take away for food and a superb sandy beach. Worth getting there early for the first ferry and/or to get a parking space at either location.[

A visit to Yarmouth is a real adventure travelling all the way to the Isle of Wight! We love catching the Lymington Foot passenger ferry (45 min crossing approx) to Yarmouth on a lovely sunny day and wandering around the quaint town or cycling/walking along the disused railway line, stopping at the rather marvellous Off The Rails for brunch/lunch (booking essential). For a trendy, sea front option, look at The Hut at Colwell Bay on a sunny day, inside booking essential, transport provided from the ferry.
This is a lovely place to visit (approx 35 min away through the beautiful New Forest), especially if there is interest in boat building and History. There is a beautiful walk along the riverside to the village of Beaulieu with its quaint shops and cafes and ferry rides up and down the river.

It is a 20 minute drive away and perfect for dog walkers, walkers and cyclists as it is situated at the end of the old railway line (now a flat cycle path) from Burley. There are also forest walks in this area ask for directions to the cycle path towards Burley from the tea rooms.

It is an hours walk from Holmsley Tea rooms or a 5 minute drive. The cycle route to the tea rooms has part of the route along a busy road so is at your own discretion.

This has been our go to walk since we moved to the area (25 min drive away through scenic forest- drive all the way along the Rhinefield road route between the A35 and Brockenhurst for marvellous ancient trees). It is a beautiful walk along a stream, with opportunities for picnicking, paddling and grabbing a well deserved ice cream at nearby Whitefield Moor (with toilet facilities).

Children, especially younger ones, will love visiting the farm and its animals. A 40 minute drive through the picturesque New Forest.

This takes you past the Lighthouse restaurant and to the start of Hurst spit.There is usually an ice cream van, which also sells crabbing gear. It is also an ideal spot for paddleboarding/kayaking.
