This is one of the most scenic of New Forest beaches. Lined with some of the most picturesque and expensive beach huts in the country! There’s no parking next to the beach, as it’s a traffic-free zone, but there’s pay and display parking at Hengistbury Head from where you can catch a little train to the sandbank, and Mudeford Quay which runs a small ferry (5 mins) over to the sandbank. Can also be reached on foot and by bicycle.

Just amazing spot. Great for walking, for kids, for swimming, for kayaking, for views... Get there via the ferry from Mudeford Quay. (£1.20 per adult for one way - make sure you have change!). Great cafe (The Beach Cafe) there too with shop and takeaways possible.

You must catch the Ferry from Mudeford Quay over to the Sandbank (subject to weather), usually runs daily but check on social media. Only a 5 minute trip taking dogs, bikes etc. Once over there, walk along the sandbank to Hengistbury Head stopping for something to eat or drink at the Beach House restaurant. For the younger children take the Noddy Train to Hengistbury Head car park. Great for dog walking.

Park at Hengistbury Head and walk for 20-25 minutes to the beach. Alternatively take the land train from Hengistbury Head’s visitor centre. The Beach House is a nice restaurant on the beach, which is reasonably priced. There’s also a takeaway and bar, along with an ice cream shop. If you prefer you can jump on the bus from Mudeford Quay which takes you across to the Sandbanks. £2 per adult and £1 per child, each way. 10-5pm every day, then from 23rd July, 10-8pm.
