ITINERARIO VIA TRIBUNALI DECUMANO MAGGIORE [18] - OBELISCO DI SAN GENNARO E PIO MONTE DI MISERICORDIA The Obelisk of San Gennaro is to be found in Piazza Riario Sforza. It was erected in 1636 as a votive offering after the eruption of 1631. It stands a few meters from the Pio Monte della Misericordia, an ancient charity institute, now converted into a museum. The museum houses the painting "The Seven Works of Mercy" by Caravaggio and the Quadreria, one of the most important private collections of artworks in Italy.
