The Jade Buddha Temple is a Buddhist temple in Shanghai, China. It was founded in 1882 with two jade Buddha statues imported to Shanghai from Burma by sea.

A 10 minutes taxi ride or a half hour discovery of the neighborhood through Jing'an, The Jade Buddha Temple is a classic not too far from the flat. The story says the temple was saved during the Cultural Revolution (as the trend of the time was to erase all signs of religion) by the monks who had the genius idea of plastering the walls of the temple with posters of Chairman Mao - more sacred than anything, even now to some extent. Don't pay extra for the underwhelming Jade statutes, strolling around the temple and spotting or hearing monks going about their business is enough of an experience. Closes at 4pm.

Come to an iconic Buddhist Temple in the middle of the city, and you may see the monks at prayer - very theraputic with the smell on insense wafting around the area. Can get busy so try and get there early.
