Named due to the bar being situated in the old hospital mortuary. Similar to the Belgian Bar, with a large variety of beers from around the world. More tables than the Belgian Bar, although as it’s in the cellar, the air can become a little stuffy 28-32 Greenwood St, Altrincham WA14 1RZ. 07512 969619.

One of two Belgian Bars in Altrincham, Mort Subite has more character, in my opinion. Access from a side entrance and down a narrow staircase, it doesn't immediately shout welcome. However, once your eyes adjust to the low lighting and decor, this bar has fantastic charm as some kind of quirky hybrid of an old-fashioned European bar combined with a Prohibition Era speakeasy. Beers come in an extensive menu, delivered by friendly waiting staff. Grab a table in one of the many nooks and crannies and try something new, or rather, old.
