William Walker MVO (1869–1918) was a famous English diver. Between 1906 and 1911, Walker worked in water up to a depth of six metres (20 feet), to shore up Winchester Cathedral, using more than 25,800 bags of concrete, 114,900 concrete blocks, and 900,000 bricks. When it was finished, both King George V and the Archbishop of Canterbury congratulated Bill at a special thanksgiving service on 15 July 1912. Jackson and Fox were knighted, while Bill was made a member of the Victorian Order.
