he St. Birgit Memorial Church is a landmark in the centre of Lempäälä. The unique medieval church was built in gray stone at the beginning of the 16th century. The church was named after its patron saint, Saint Birgit. The only female saint in the Nordic countries, the Swedish Birgit, daughter of Birger, lived in the 14th century. The church has been modified and expanded, for example during the 1830s, when its base was expanded to the current crucifix form and the beautiful four-leaf clover windows were installed. The bell tower standing next to the church has served as a museum of ecclesiastical objects. The church is open during the summer on weekdays from 10 am to 4 pm.
