The South African Marine Rehabilitation and Education Centre are doing amazing work and are definitely worth a visit. They rescue marine bird life who are stranded on our shores and help them to get back to their full health, in order to be returned to the wild. It's a very informative and enlightening visit.

SANCCOB is Port Elizabeth's marine bird rehabilitation and education centre situated in the Cape Recife Nature Reserve. The purpose isn't just to rescue and rehabilitate, but to also inform and educate the public through their different programs. Visitors can experience the hospital and see the volunteers in action helping to save our environment, in particular the endangered African Penguin. Guided hikes in the Cape Recife Nature Reserves are available. This really is fun, and also - try catch one of the popular Penguin release days, where sick or oil slicked penguins have been rehabilitated, and are returned to the wild (the sea)

SANCCOB is a registered non-profit organisation (NPO 003-134) whose primary objective is to reverse the decline of seabird populations through the rescue, rehabilitation and release of ill, injured, abandoned and oiled seabirds – especially endangered species like the African penguin.
