Travel time: 1 hr 30 min This geological oddity get its name from its shape, resembling a sombrero. A giant hoodoo rising next to the small town of Mexican Hat, named after the rock, this area is surrounded by spectacular views.

Not only is the Hat Rock and surrounding countryside unusual and beautiful, but you'll find absolutely terrific Navajo Tacos at the Restaurant right at the bridge. Keep going straight, instead of crossing the river... and head for a window table where you can watch the San Juan River - and probably rafters - flow and float by, below.

This is a great hike that takes only 30 minutes. You can hike up to and underneath the brim of the hat rock. Check it out!
