While easily accessible via Staten Island Ferry (which makes day-trip worthy experience of its own - seeing Downtown Manhattan skyline while crossing the New York Harbor past Statue of Liberty), it takes to to a different time and space: very calm, quaint and truly replenishes ones body and soul. The Museum is just a part of an extensive Art, Culture and Nature area, with beautiful park and Botanical Garden, musical performances and more. Famed Chinese Scholars Garden - the oldest structure in Western hemisphere, is also located there. It would make a wonderful day trip, that not many visitors (and New-Yorkers alike) have had pleasure to enjoy.

was first home to retired sailors and is now a renowned arts and cultural center. It contains 28 historic structures, 14 botanical gardens, a two-acre urban farm and 10 acres of wetlands
The Chinese Scholars Garden is beautiful ($5 entrance fee). There is large collection of Greek Revival buildings, gardens and museums to look at. As well, Staten Island Children's Museum is located on campus. We love the this place that was built over a hundred years ago for "aged and decrepit" sailors has been restored and reused as a beloved public park and cultural space.
