Perched atop Richmond Hill at the center of St. George's, Fort Frederick is a bastion type fort, which offers a 360 view of St. George’s. After a walk through its grand arches, you look southward onto the town of St. George's and admire the picturesque Carenage and northward to the rolling mountain ridges covered in lush vegetation and quaint houses. Also take the opportunity to visit Fort Mathew next door.

Views of St. George's, the lovely Carenage, the harbor, and Fort George can be had first thing in the morning. Go in the evening, while the sun is setting over the sea, to see (maybe) a stunning sunset, with the hills behind you bathed in light. The south-western peninsula, the airport, the roofs of St. George's University, Grand Anse Beach, and small Glovers Island, which was temporarily utilized for whaling in the 1920s, can all be seen at any time of day. In July and August, the entrance will be decked with scarlet blossoms from Flamboyant trees. Look across the street at our prison, which has the second-best view of the southern portion of the island. Fort Frederick is easily accessible, being about 7 mins or 3.5 km from the Mt. Parnassus Inn. from the center of St. George's, though very, very uphill of it.
