This Walthamstow warehouse is a visual sensation stuffed full with neon signs—some glowing, some in disrepair. Kids will be dazzled by vintage circus lights and original neon art hanging from the ceiling, walls, and propped against every available surface. When you need a break, their Rolling Scones cafe does good coffee and cake. Visit as part of a day spent hopping round Walthamstow Village’s shops and cafes—nearby Sodo Pizza Cafe is delicious and super kid-friendly.

God's Own Junkyard is a museum and workshop devoted to neon signs. It was created by Chris Bracey, who in the 1970s joined his father's firm, based in Walthamstow, which made illuminated signs for circuses and fairgrounds. In the 1980s he was specialising in making neon signs for film sets. Today the museum holds over 700 flashing tubes of colour and other weird and wonderful objects d’art!

Yes, it’s become the Instagram generation’s catnip, but it’s hard to resist taking a photograph of the irreverent pieces that cover the walls, floors and ceilings of this neon nirvana – from seedy Soho sex shops to old motel vacancy signs. It was the studio of the late Chris Bracey, a neon sign artist whose work can be seen in films such as Blade Runner and Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut. Some pieces are available to rent or buy. Afterwards, head next door to Mother’s Ruin Gin Palace for a negroni, made using gin distilled onsite.
