Home to the iconic Nelsons Column, Trafalgar Square is one of the most famous squares in the entire city. Playing host to the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery, the Square has been a landmark since the 13th century. The four lion stature in the centre guards Nelson’s Column in the centre of the square whilst the fourth plinth has held examples of contemporary art since 1999. The square is also famous for its Christmas time decorations and for often being the rallying point for many peaceful protests over the years.
