In 2006 the Museum of Art Tigre (MAT) opened its doors to the public. Conceived as a house museum, it works in a historic building in the delta, the former Tiger Club, and has an outstanding collection of Argentina painting the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The MAT, since its inception, is an important cultural attraction of the north. Founded by Mayor Ricardo Ubieto (1933-2006), his approach to form the collection was favoring the purchase of works that show the landscape and customs of Tigre and Delta, once known as "Venice of gardens". The particular geography of Tigre and customs are recreated in works by artists who visited us in the nineteenth century as the French Juan Leon Pallière-a traveler who documented life in the islands of the Parana and exotic landscapes their eyes abroad. At the beginning of the twentieth century Italian muralist Carlos Barberis, who lives in Argentina, painted churches at the same time gentle visions of the Delta. Other more contemporary artists such as Horacio Butler, Jorge Larco and Fermin Eguia, who lived in the Tigre and painted, are part of the acquis with teachers of another river, the Riachuelo, the School of Boca. This group strongly influenced by Italian immigration, is present in the museum through the works of Victor Cunsolo, Eugenio Daneri, Fortunato Lacámera, Alfredo Lazzari, Marcos Tiglio, Miguel Diomede, Quinquela and Miguel Carlos Victorica.

This is a place to go. The art collection might not be huge, but the building itself is a piece of art! Stunning beautiful palace.

The building itself is worth visiting. Its the natural end of the Paseo victorica walk. Its a frech palace built for parties and social events by the Anchorena´s. The garden is very well kept, peaceful and empty during the week, crowded in weekends.
