Very popular stadium before the Olympic Games in Ancient Greece

It is located 112 klm from Stavrianna Farm, 1h 14 min easy driving on a new highway. Athletic Games were taking place here to honor Zeus. There is the remains of the Temple of Zeus and the stadium. The excavations took place by an American archeologist Stephen Miller of Berkley University since 1974. The museum is very interesting and definately worth visiting. Nearby there are many wineries one of them is Palivos winery only 800 meters from the site. A wellcome visit!

Στο γνωστό ιερό του Δία, κάθε δύο χρόνια τελούνταν τα Νέμεα, αθλητικοί αγώνες που συμπλήρωναν την τετράδα των πανελλήνιων αγώνων της αρχαιότητας (Ολύμπια, Πύθια, Ίσθμια, Νέμεα). Σήμερα στον αρχαιολογικό χώρο ξεχωρίζει ο αναστηλωμένος ναός του Δία, αλλά και λίγο πιο ανατολικά το στάδιο, όπου διεξάγονταν οι αγώνες. Μπορείτε να συμπληρώσετε την επίσκεψή σας με μια περιήγηση στον περίφημο αμπελώνα της Νεμέας, έναν από τους ομορφότερους αμπελοτόπους της Ευρώπης, και να ξεναγηθείτε σε ένα από τα φημισμένα οινοποιεία της περιοχής.
