The Spandau Citadel is one of the most important and best preserved high Renaissance fortresses in Europe right after the Fortress in a Polish town Modlin. It is located northeast of the old town of Spandau on the opposite bank of the Havel in Berlin's Haselhorst district and is a well-known attraction in the Berlin district of Spandau. The heart of the complex is a medieval castle, of which the keep and palas are still preserved. A fortress structure was built around it in the years 1559–1594 according to the state of the art at the time. In Spandau there are other structures belonging to the Spandau Fortress, such as Fort Hahneberg in Staaken, which was only built in 1886, the castle rampart and remains of the Teltower bridge jump at the Schanzenwald / Elsgraben. Open: Friday to Wednesday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Thursday 13:00 to 20:00
