Distance from our property: 82mi./1hr 35min. You can combine this with a sightseeing trip to the town of Sedona. It's a natural water slide formed by the slippery bed of Oak Creek. A very nice place to go for a very refreshing swim. Water is nice and clear plenty of exploring to do up stream and down stream. Beware that the water will be cold and you may slip a little.

Slide Rock State Park is located along Highway 89A in Oak Creek Canyon, north of Sedona. The park is both a historic site and natural attraction, although most people enjoy coming here on warm days to play in the river. At this point, Oak Creek flows over a series of small waterfalls on the smooth rock, creating a natural slide and water park. On hot days, the park is packed with people sliding along the rock and swimming in the natural pools. As fun as this looks, the rock is hard, and you can come away a little bumped and bruised if you aren't careful. The park site was once a large apple farm owned by Frank L. Pendley. He was able to devise an interesting and successful irrigation system that allowed for the growing of apples. The original homestead can still be seen. As one of the few homesteads left intact in the canyon today, Slide Rock State Park is a fine example of early agricultural development in Central Arizona. The site was also instrumental to the development of the tourism industry in Oak Creek Canyon. The completion of the canyon road in 1914 and the paving of the roadway in 1938 were strong influences in encouraging recreational use of the canyon. Hence, Pendley followed suit and in 1933, built rustic cabins to cater to vacationers and sightseers. Todays visitors can still enjoy the fruits of Pendley's labor. Historic cabins are available for viewing, and the creek offers the park's namesake slide for adventures seekers and those looking for a place to cool off.

Super popular for sights and cool down in the creek. Tip. Go early to get limited parking. Also keep going deeper into the canyon for quieter spot.

Off of Oak Creek Canyon is Slide Rock. There is a nominal charge. Go swinning and slide down the red rocks! Be sure to wear a pair of old jeans!
