에이칸도는 교토의 단풍을 가장 드라마틱하게 볼 수 있는 사찰이다. 정식 명칭은 ‘젠린지’이지만 에이칸 율사가 염불수행을 한 곳으로 이러한 이름이 붙여졌다. 다소 비싼 입장료(1천엔)이지만 경내에 첫 발을 내딛는 순간 이런 걱정은 사라진다. 울긋불긋 별처럼 수놓아진 단풍이 연못에 비춰 눈이 부실 정도다.

One of Kyoto's most famous autumn color spots. Eikando (永観堂, Eikandō), formally known as Zenrinji Temple, belongs to the Jodo sect of Japanese Buddhism. Located just north of the large temple complex of Nanzenji, Eikando is very famous for its autumn colors and the evening illuminations that take place in fall. The temple has a long history, and there are a variety of buildings and a pond garden that visitors can explore.

Zenrin-ji is the head temple of Jodo-shu Seizan Zenrin-ji sect. The temple has more than 1,100 years of history and is dedicated to Amida. Due to a merciful pose of Mikaeri Amida (Amitabha looking back), the temple attracts many believers and people throughout the world. The temple is also well-known as "Eikando in Maple Leaves", because of its beautiful garden filled with many maple trees.
