The Little Mermaid is a statue depicting a mermaid. Based on the fairy tale of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen, the small, unimposing statue is a Copenhagen icon and has been a major attraction since 1913. It has become a popular target for defacement by vandals and political activists.

The statue is a national landmark nad is for many synonymous with the capital. The Little Marmaid is created in 1913, and inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale of the same name. You can also see the statue from a canal cruise.

A Danish national treasure: The Little Mermaid is a sculpture of the female main character in one of H.C. Andersons storries. (You might know her from the Disney movie as Ariel)
