The Balamku archaeological site is located 45 min. from Cabañas Aldea Maya, carretera Villahermosa - Chetumal/México 186 In Balamku, there is a frieze made of molded stucco and polychrome, unique in the Maya area, which was built between 550 and 650 AD. A close reading of this rich iconographic work, reveals a complex conceptual world of the ancient Maya. Balamkú, which in Maya means "The Jaguar Temple" (balam-jaguar, ku-temple), has an approximate area of 1 sq. kilometer, and consists of 3 architectural groups: The South, Central and North Groups, of which only the first 2 have been partially excavated. The site is open every day from 8:00 to 5:00. Admission fee: $40.00 pesos. Entrance
