Bring a picnic and setup for sunset. Anytime of day is beautiful as well. Short hike up from the lot. As the tale goes, this is a place of mysticism!

The Beech Hill side of this preserve has a wide path up that is is extremely accessible for families and provides a fantastic vista at the top. A great short walk for a day when you may have just an hour or two. The other side is a very woodsy trail full of poison ivy (wish I'd known THAT before we started). Totally different routes up to the same beautiful view at the top (yes, there is a porta-potty there). Highly recommend the first side for a great family activity very close to home. I would avoid the Woods Loop trail on the second side, as a parent.

Stretch your legs in Rockport, it is not too long a hike but you can add on and loop back to your car after you reach the top of the hill where there is the Beech Nut (hut) and a magnificent view of the ocean and surrounding hills and Chickawakee Lake. Lovely!

Beech Hill preserve is a short hike up a rocky, open road with blueberry bluffs all around you. At the top of the hike, you can see Beech Nut a stone cabin with a sod roof that has been renovated in recent years. The views at the top are of Rockport and Rockland harbors, islands, and the surrounding hills. This is one of our family's favorite hikes.
