Merthyr Mawr Sand Dunes is a site of special scientific interest.The stunning village of Merthyr Mawr is nearby. The largest sand dune at the site is known as the Big Dipper measuring around 200 feet. Lawrence of Arabia was filmed here as well as episodes of Doctor Who.

The largest sandudes in Europe. Long walks up dunes or too the beach. Only costs car parking fee. Big direct access carpark. Dog and child friendly

Second largest sand dunes in Europe - hidden away at end lovely heritage village with thatched cottages. Great pubs and beaches nearby.

Park in the car park and don't forget to take change to pay for parking to avoid a ticket. You can walk through the many dunes to Newton beach and beyond to Porthcawl if you're feeling energetic. Drive through the picturesque village of Merthyr Mawr, listed as one of the most sought after villages to live in in the UK on your way. The dunes is home to The Big Dipper, the second largest dune of its kind in Europe; and regularly hosts running races. In the august bank holiday, there is a festival "Between the Trees' which is well worth a visit-purchase tickets online.
