Beautiful secluded ruined Abbey which can be found either via Hay or Abergavenny. Lots of walking in the area.

LLANTHONEY ABBEY/PRIORY By 1118 Llanthony had become a monastery of Augustinian canons, which continued until it was suppressed in 1539. Although now a 900-year-old ruin, it’s easy to see from these extensive remains that Llanthony was one of Wales’s great medieval buildings.

A stunning abbey, free to enter, free parking and beautiful scenery. There is a lovely onsite cafe serving food and drink.

The drive up to the Abbey, is an experience in itself!! The lanes are rather narrow!! It’s a good half way stop if you’re heading on to Hay on Wye.

In addition to the beautiful scenery and the historical surroundings, there is a lovely downstairs bar here with a very good selection of beers. They also do good lunches. You can sit outside or in. Recommended! Please note that dogs are not allowed in the Abbey grounds
