Definitely an Auckland favourite. Great beach and safe too. Best time to go is on high tide

Great beach for swimming. Pack a picnic. There is also a great beach walk - start behind the boat club and follows the coast all the way around to Beachlands. Some great spots to stop for a swim on route. Gets crowded int eh summer but less crowded than going into the city beaches , and better swimming at full tide. - Low tide you can walk in the water for a number of metres to get water above the knees.

Another lovely beach, white sand! again around 35 minute drive but in another direction, you pass through Clevedon - a lovely little village with markets, coffee, icecream/smoothie shop and at the beach you have a lovely cafe serving fresh seafood right on the beachfront. Playground & park right opposite. Perfect for family day out.
