This is such a beautiful area in Arizona! I always love taking excursions through the forest. I've done it on foot many of times as well as in my Jeep! It's just a great environment that feels very freeing to your soul. Once you get out into the middle of the Coconino National Forest, you are literally by yourself and that within itself is a very freeing feeling! We love coming here and will keep making very frequent visits.

Flagstaff got its name when lumberjacks celebrating the 4th of July in 1876 nailed a U.S. flag to the top of a tall Ponderosa Pine and called the unnamed settlement Flagstaff. The forest covers 1.856-million acres in N.AZ and is one of the most diverse National Forests in the country with landscapes ranging from the red rocks of Sedona to Ponderosa pine forests, from southwestern desert to alpine tundra. It’s mostly a pine-covered plateau cut by deep canyons and bordered on the south by the spectacular Mogollon Rim, a 1,000-ft cliff running for miles across central AZ and includes the San Francisco Peaks, with Humphreys Peak the highest mountain in AZ at 12,633 ft.
