My son can spend an entire day in the dinosaur rooms alone, but he also loves the Hall of Human Origins. Beyond the famous exhibits, the Discovery Center holds all kinds of hands-on stuff for kids—dinosaur bones, microscopes, archaeology. It’s all designed just for kids ages 5-10. Controlled, timed-entry keeps the Discovery Center from getting crowded. So as soon as you get to the museum, get your timed entry ticket from admissions. That way you can enjoy other exhibits while you wait.

Day 2 American Museum of Natural History Jump back on the Subway (B Line) and take a ride to the American Museum of Natural History – one of the most important museums in New York City. This museum is one enormous complex comprised of over two dozen interconnected buildings. It’s such a giant house of knowledge that even if you dedicate an entire year of your life, you still won’t have time to see everything in it. The museum holds tens of millions of different items on display, and you’ll find some of the most fascinating bits of human and natural history here. You’ll learn about Lucy, one of our ancestors from millions of years ago, as well as the Great Blue Whale, the rainforests, and so much more. This museum is so massive and enthralling, you’ll want to stay for days. Our best recommendation to tackle it is to just pick a handful of exhibits that really interest you and focus on those, as you won’t be able to see everything in just a few hours.

The American Museum of Natural History is a New York icon. Packed with exhibitions representing people and animals throughout the ages, the museum also has a planetarium and a digital 3D and 2D theater, as well as special visiting exhibitions and plenty of places to eat and shop. The dinosaur wing is a must-see, and if you have time, lie down under the life-size model of a blue whale in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life. -NYCgo.com

I love this Museum and have visited it with friends and family as well as on a 3rd grade school trip with my daughter. It is a giant and has amazing exhibits and historical lessons. Located 3.8 miles away on Central Park West between 77th and 81st Street across from Central Park it is an easy commute. Make a full day out of visiting this museum and picnic in the park across the way! NJ, CT, and NY residents pay what they wish for general admission with Id and not including certain aspects. Open 10am - 5:30pm Wed - Sun! This is not a museum you can absorb in one day or even many days. It is extensive and has major permanent exhibit experiences as well as special exhibitions! The Planetarium show and giant screen film are among some of the exhibits. Check for special events but go for the permanent content! This museum doesn’t need any additions it is amazing on it’s own! This place is worth visiting, not for the events, but for the permanent collection and visiting exhibits.
