The Roan Mountain section of the AT is a beautiful day hike. Hike the Appalachian Trail from Carvers Gap over Roan’s rolling highlands on Roan Mountain’s most popular hike. The AT meanders through grassy, wildflower-covered fields and wild blueberry thickets to exceptional 360-degree summit views at Round Bald, Jane Bald, and Grassy Ridge Bald.

The segment closest to us, 9 miles away, is a 9 mile hike from Hugh's Gap to Iron Mt. If you choose to hike this segment, we'd be happy to drop you at your entry point after you bring your car to the termination point.

World famous. Be a part of something great! the easiest point of access ( there are several) is turn right out of drive through the community to 19E turn right in 2.5 miles... look for Bear Branch road on the right and park in the grass. cross the road and follow the trail.
