Brownsea Island is the largest of the islands in Poole Harbour and is owned by the National Trust. It is a great place to visit for walks and views across the harbour. The island is one of the few places in southern England where indigenous red squirrels survive. There is also a large population of deer. The island has a visitor centre, museum, outdoor centre and campsite. There is an old church and ruins of an old village.

[🚂] Brownsea Island is a great place for a day trip. You can get a boat either from Poole Quay or Sandbanks. It's owned by the National Trust , has some lovely walks and a nature reserve. Also, one of the few places left in the UK where you can see red squirrels. Normally open between Easter and September

Home of the boy scouts and owned by the National Trust, Brownsea Island is the largest island in Poole Harbour with spectacular views across to the Purbeck Hills. The ferry leaves regularly from Poole Quay, advisable to pre-book if possible. Fantastic for wildlife watching, the island is home to around 200 rare red squirrels! An ideal day out to enjoy picnics, walks and swimming.

Brownsea Island is set in the middle of Poole Harbour and is famous for three things; its wildlife, its red squirrel population, and its role as the birthplace of the scouting movement. Heath and woodland cover the island, which offers a network of trails and viewpoints for observing wildlife and natural habitat.

The island sits in the middle of Poole Harbour, with dramatic views of the Purbeck Hills. Thriving natural habitats, including woodland, heathland and a lagoon, have created havens for wildlife, such as the red squirrel and a huge variety of birds, including the sandwich tern. You'll find peacocks and hens wandering near the 19th-century church.
