The Boonville Black River Canal Museum consists of the Hemlock Mercantile that houses a pictorial history of the Canal and surrounding communities, an original one-of-a-kind restored canal warehouse that was used for mules and storage during the active years of the Black River Canal, a working mini-canal for children of all ages to run model canal boats through, an interactive pulley system that shows how different pulley set-ups distribute weight and two miniature crane systems that will be hands-on to allow the visitors to put supplies on a canal boat. In addition there is a full size working canal boat rudder with a moving deck, a full size replica of a canal boat that with displays showing what life was like living and working on the canal with static and picture displays, as well as a diorama of the Black River Canal Profile.

The Boonville Black River Canal Museum offers a collection of period photographs and riveting artifacts embodying the legacy of the canal, an engineering wonder, in the Adirondacks. Visitors to the museum enter through the mercantile and gift shop. The museum consists of three (3) building. Take the opportunity and enter a full scale replica of a canal boat, embodying the highlighted commodities that were hauled along the canal in days gone by. As history has been written, Boonville and the surrounding hamlets have not always been a quaint summer time resort, but to the contrary the area was a booming mill and lumber town.
