The architecture—white walls and pillars—is especially unique for a Japanese Buddhist temple. It was built in the early Showa period and modeled after old designs from India, giving it a very subcontinental, almost otherworldly feel. The illuminations at night make it a particularly beautiful, romantic spot to visit. Since this temple has a much more lavish style compared to the usual humility you see at Japanese temples, it attracts the attention of big-name celebrities. And since the grounds can hold quite a lot of people, you see a lot of funerals there for famous people—rock musicians and so on.
