Melbourne has bicycles that you can rent from stations all over the CBD. You need to wear a helmet but you can buy them from 7-11 stores for $5. Google "melbourne bike share" for locations and prices.

For commuters, you can hire bikes at the bottom of Fitzroy Street (not ideal for all day riding, most people use these for cycling to the city etc.,)
