신주쿠를 지키는 일본에서도 비중있는 신사로 도쿠가와 이에야스의 에도막부 이후부터는 도쿠가와 가문을 숭배하고 있습니다. 처음 신사가 있었던 곳에서 이전하여 당시 오와리번의 별장이 있었던 곳으로 이전하였는데 이곳에는 많은 꽃이 피어나는 정원이었다고 하여 이후 신사의 이름은 화원이라고 불렀다고 전해지고 있습니다. 또한, 매년 11월에는 오오토리마쓰리 축제가 열립니다. Adress : 5-17-3 Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tōkyō-to Tel : 03-3209-5265

Hanazono Shrine (花園神社), located near the intersection of Meiji-dori and Yasukuni-dori. More remarkable for its location than its appearance, but it's a nice place to take a breather. There's often a flea market in the surrounding park on weekends.
