Set in historic woodland among the river Nidd is Mother Shiptons cave, the birthplace of the famous prophetess. It’s situated next to the petrifying well, where items are turned to stone and is England’s oldest visitor attraction. Good playgrounds too for the kids and a nice walk to see the river from the other side of the bank

Mother Shipton is a famous prophet who has prophesised a number of events including the Great Fire of London and the defeat of the Spanish Armada. She has forecast that the World will end when High Bridge in Knaresborough has fallen 3 times into the Nidd. It has so far fallen twice………

Don't stay too long - you could turn to stone! What a petrifying thought! This is in the nearby lovely town of Knaresborough. There are also rowing boats available for hire in Knaresborough at the Marigold Cafe by the river.
