If you plan ahead and rent a kayak/canoe/paddleboard from Clear Creek Rentals, floating from Mchood Reservoir up East Clear Creek is absolutely gorgeous. The first half mile is accessible by foot and unfortunately has quite a bit of graffiti on the walls. Once past this, the next mile and a half of paddling is through an amazing slot canyon complete with petroglyphs, cliff jumping, and swimming galore. Eventually the creek becomes too shallow for floating but is a beautiful riparian environment perfect for a short stroll. Expect to spend at least half a day out exploring.

I know...you are here in Flagstaff...but if you like to kayak or paddleboard or deep water solo....THEN YOU WILL LOVE this place. A simple google search will provide plenty of enticing pictures. The start of the canyon has the usual signs of people not knowing how to respect nature....but as you get back into canyon....amazing....I promise. Rent kayaks or a paddleboard. An hour to arrive, easy drive.
