Amazing black magnetic sand, surf beach, rock pools & dunes. Try Sylvia's Cafe, famously run by Chef, Sylvia from River Cottage series. G/F, Dairy Free delicious foods. Fantastic long walk to the mouth of the Waikato River. It's the start of the longest river in NZ, 425km. It starts on the eastern slopes of Mount Ruapehu, joining the Tongariro River system and flows through Lake Taupo, New Zealand's largest lake. It then drains Taupo at the lake's northeastern edge, creates the Huka Falls, and flows northwest through the Waikato Plains. It empties into the Tasman Sea south of Auckland, at Port Waikato.
