Highcliffe Castle is just 3 miles from Christchurch - not only a beautiful and historical building, but the surrounding grounds are perfect for a relaxing stroll or picnic on the lawns. There is also direct access to both a wonderful sandy beach and the unspoilt nature reserve of nearby Steamer Point. You will find the The Castle Kitchen Tearooms within the grounds, which provides hot and cold drinks along with delicious snacks and homemade cakes. .

Eight minutes drive from The cabin or walk along Avon beach to what once was Mr Selfridges place of residence. Stunning grounds .

Highcliffe Castle (which doesn't actually look like a Castle) is situated on the cliffs at Highcliffe, Dorset. It was built between 1831 and 1835 by Charles Stuart, 1st Baron Stuart de Rothesay in a Gothic Revival style with the gardens laid out by Capability Brown. The 'Castle' is undergoing extensive work after years of decline however there are many rooms which have been restored. It is also in a lovely area for walks along the clifftop and down to the sea. Highcliffe Castle was rented several times. One of the most notable tenants from 1916 to 1922 was the American-born retail entrepreneur Harry Gordon Selfridge. He lived there with his wife Rosalie, his mother Lois and son Gordon. Mr Selfridge is buried in St Marks Churchyard, Highcliffe next to his wife and mother. A T.V. drama was made about his life and Highcliffe Castle was used during the filming. Highcliffe Castle is 4 miles from Southbourne by car.
