On top of Slievegullion there's the reward of a mountain lake and a Neolithic passage tomb which predates the pyramids. It more than equals the better-known Newgrange, especially during the winter solstice. 10 min drive from the cottage. Lovely hikes and a scenic mountain drive.

The kids, old and young, will ove it. Must do the forest drive for the views. Great adventure playground and range of walks through the woods and up the mountains. Super little Burn and Synge Coffee Shop serving beverages and snacks. About 30mins away.

The adventure park is suitable for kids of all ages and includes a specially designed toddler’s area, adventure and play equipment for the older kids, the ‘Slieve Gullion ZIP’ and even a trim trail for the adults. The Giant's Lair is situated beside the Slieve Gullion Adventure Playpark. It is free to walk round and explore. The Giant’s Lair is an innovative magical living storybook which takes visitors on an unforgettable journey of intertwined fairy houses and arts features. A backpack carrier or baby sling is recommended for tots. Facilities include Visitor Information Office, Synge & Byrne café, picnic area and toilets.
