If you're looking for a moderate to strenuous hike by lakes, streams and peaks, you can't do much better so close to town than with a hike to Duck Pass or any of the lakes preceding it.

This is where the Redline Trolley stop is located. The Redline will take you along Old Mammoth Road and Main Street with plenty of stops along the way. It goes to the village and then up to Main Lodge of the Ski Area. It's free.
