This is one of our favourite restaurants - its not fine dining more smart casual delicious New Zealand bistro style food like Hapuka belly (fish) there is an oyster bar, skirt steak everything is delicious. Owned and run by legendary kiwi chef Al Brown. If you really want to make a night of it put your name on the list at Depot (you can't book) then go up to The Sugar Club in the sky tower which is a few steps away from Depot - you get an incredible view of the city from the top of the sky tower for free and drink some delicious cocktails (it is fine dining up here the food was just average the times we have eaten and very pricey)

Cute country market but quite a trek if you are going to go here recommend going to Goat Island as well for a swim if its summer this is a marine reserve and very beautiful. And the Leigh Sawmill for a beer

Newest cafe in the area - beautiful interior and lovely outlook onto a river in an industrial part of the airport so perfect coming to and from the airport but worth a visit if you want delicious food in a lovely setting. 10 mins from our house.

Delicious modern take on italian food right in the centre of Britomart in the city. LOVE the tuatua spaghetti (a local shellfish)

Great selection of beers, nice atmosphere. Great selection of smoked meats (recommend the Rueben sandwich). Has a beer garden around the back. 10 mins drive from our house in Onehunga or you can catch a bus just outside our road.

Sightseeing
This is a must visit if you are in Auckland and the weather is good. There are numerous wineries highlights for us are Mudbrick Cafe, Cable Bay Winery, Man'O War (although this is tricky to get to). If you don't want to go as far as Waiheke Island then this is a great little ferry ride from the city where you can look back at the Auckland City from the water and then explore Devonport which is a small little village with lots of cafes and restaurants etc

Parks & Nature
Great trek to the top the island is covered in volcanic lava there is a great view from the top looking back at the city. Only warning is the ferry is quite expensive (around $45NZ return??)

Park your car and go for a walk around here its pretty with a great view from the summit. A couple of nice cafes in the park.

Stunning marine reserve quite far away but worth it - you don't actually go onto the island you go to Leigh and follow the signs to Goat Island there is a beach there opposite the island. Great for snorkeling and feeding fish by hand.

This is a wild black sand beach fun to go to in the winter too for beautiful scenery there are a few bush walks around here including one at Huia. Make sure you stay between the red flags in the summer as there are some crazy rips at this beach.

Five minutes from our house - you can feed the lambs in the spring, this is a working farm which has beautiful scenery on a nice day and anyone can wander around and look at the animals
