The locals' pub full of character with log fires, good food (portions can be HUGE!) and wide selection of beers, ciders and wines. Advisable to book ahead especially if you want to sit in the "village" bar on the left hand side with its ancient beams and original slate floors

Destination "must do" and all down to Rick Stein who set up his iconic Seafood Restaurant in 1975. Since then he has opened a number of other very successful businesses - bistro, deli, cafe and seafood school to name but a few - written numerous books, appeared in many tv series and brought many other top-ranking chefs and their devotees to this little North Cornish fishing port. To be honest it's better to avoid Padstow during school holidays but you'll really "get" what makes this little fishing town so special from November to March

Arts & Culture

Historic market town on the edge of Dartmoor, its wealth from tin, copper and farming evident from the many stunning buildings dating from medieval through to Victorian times - the town centre mercifully unspoiled and home to many unique and independent shops and traders. Be sure to include the award-winning farmers' market (2nd, 4th and 5th Sats of the month) and the buzzing Pannier Market just off Bedford Square.

Everything Else

Yay! Love Plymouth!! Over 50 towns and cities scattered across the world share its name but this Plymouth is the mother of them all, our very own Ocean City built on the historic merchant traders and sea-going traditions of past centuries. Yes it does have its less affluent areas and some questionable architecture that city elders built to replace the Plymouth Blitz of WWII but there's a buzzing mix of arts and culture, food, history, architecture (Royal William Yard ticks v many boxes), civic pride and the PLYMOUTH GIN distillery tours! Catch the single track train from Gunnislake into the centre, you won't be disappointed!

Getting Around

A very special line that survived Beeching's cuts of the 1960's - bringing early season daffodils, strawberries, cherries and apples to Plymouth and thence to the markets of London's Covent Garden and beyond. Iconic views from Calstock's viaduct over the Tamar, through farmyards and orchards, beside creeks and suddenly alongside Her Majesty's Naval Base, Devonport, the largest naval base in Western Europe and the sole nuclear repair and refuelling facility for the Royal Navy.
