Local Beaches
Incredible beach in front of the Ponta Grande Resort. The sea gets deep very quickly here and there are some big rocks so be careful with children or weak swimmers. Gale /Gale East beaches are better for swimming.

Wonderful beach. This is our favourite beach. It is tiny and an absolute must visit on your holiday. Looking towards the sea - the Gale beach (Oeste) is to your right and there are about 5 or 6 small beaches to your left.

Gale East beach is another beautiful beach. It goes all the way to Armação de Pera - about 5 miles in length.
Geat beach for walking or running beside the sea as sand is very hard. Lots of little beach restaurants and bars aling the way.

This is the Ponta Grande Resort Restaurant / Bar. Excellent coverage of all sporting events. There is entertainment most nights during high season. Very good menu and very reasonably priced.

Make sure you have a glass of port in the little bar before your meal ( sits about 5-6 people). The food here is excellent and deserts are homemade. When booking- request a table in the lower section.

Turn right from the resort and walk about 250 yards. it’s on your left up a laneway about 50 yards. Almost as good as Jompra - but that's being unfair as Jompra is exceptional. Very good food, service and has a children’s playground/area. Sesmarias/Praia da Coelha 8200-385 Albufeira

This is about 6 or 7 EUR in a taxi from the resort. Looks nothing from the outside but fantastic inside. I went past this restaurant for years until recently. Well worth a visit. Estrada de Vale de Parra, Albufeira.

Aquashow is near Quarteira (15 – 20 minutes drive from Albuferia.
Aquashow has the biggest wave pool in Europe . It also has a water roller coaster and lost of excellent rides you would expect in a water park.
This is a very up-market water park. There is something for everyone.
If you have hired a car – I would much prefer this water park to slide & splash.
Bring a packed lunch with you - food and drinks at the park are expensive.

Albufeira is generally divided between the old town and the new town. The new town is definitely more suited to teenagers. The old town has much more charachter to it - Cobblelocked payments, narrow streets and very few cars. The main square and steets off it are very busy with lots of bars and restaurants.
Its very nice to walk about during the day as well as at night time.
