A beautifully remote and peaceful 5 square kilometre nature reserve maintained by RSPB. It is located on the edge of Poole Harbour and next to the village of Arne. The reserve contains heathland, grassland, salt marsh, woodland and reedbeds. It is home to rare birds such as the Dartford warbler and nightjar. There are lots of trails to follow and a small quiet beach on the edge of the harbour.

The pool gets its name from the striking and changing colours of the lake, caused by light diffracting from particles of clay suspended in the deep water. The colours of the water can change from bright turquoise to green and dark blue depending on the time of day and weather. Walking trails have been created around the pool and into the woodland. Walks can start and end at an Art Deco style tea room. There is a small entrance fee to the site.
In the summer there are a number of outdoor cinema events. In the winter the trails often have professionally staged illuminations lighting the woodland trails.

There is a heritage railway line and station in the village with steam trains that run to the seaside town of Swanage. There is a free railway museum at the station.

There are a range of restaurants, cafes and independent shops in Swanage. There is a beautiful 45 minute coastal walk from Swanage beach taking in a Lifeboat station and National Coastwatch Institution station (Peveril Point). The walk continues into Durlston Country Park where there is a nature reserve, castle (with tea room) and lighthouse.
Swanage station is in the town centre. It is a heritage steam line with trains running to Corfe Castle several times a day in the summer.

There are vehicle rides running daily in the summer. In the middle of the day the museum provides live demonstration of tanks in the outdoor arena. Particularly great place to visit in rainy weather, as the main exhibitions are indoor.
18 minute drive from annexe. Tyneham is an abandoned village. The village and surrounding countryside was requisitioned during WWII in order to use as firing ranges for training troops. Although the village was planned to only be used temporarily during the war, the village was never returned to its inhabitants. Some of the inhabitants were provided with housing in Sandford (nearby in Tyneham Close). Most of Tyneham village has fallen into disrepair or been damaged by shelling. When the range is open, the church and old schoolhouse can be visited.
From the carpark at Tyneham Village there is a 20 minute walk to Tyneham Beach / Warbarrow bay. This is a fairly quiet shingle beach with few visitors and beautiful views of the landscape.

18 minute drive from annexe. Tyneham is an abandoned village. The village and surrounding countryside was requisitioned during WWII in order to use as firing ranges for training troops. Although the village was planned to only be used temporarily during the war, the village was never returned to its inhabitants. Some of the inhabitants were provided with housing in Sandford (nearby in Tyneham Close). Most of Tyneham village has fallen into disrepair or been damaged by shelling. When the range is open, the church and old schoolhouse can be visited.
From the carpark at Tyneham Village there is a 20 minute walk to Tyneham Beach / Warbarrow bay. This is a fairly quiet shingle beach with few visitors and beautiful views of the landscape.

Do stop at the layby viewpoint between Corfe Castle and Studland (near the golf course) to see far reaching views across Poole Harbour to Studland bay and the Isle of Wight. There is a usually an icecream van at the stop.

You can book horse riding treks at Studland and in the winter you can ride on the beach along the tideline.
Do stop at the layby viewpoint between Corfe Castle and Studland (near the golf course) to see far reaching views across Poole Harbour to Studland bay and the Isle of Wight. There is a usually an icecream van at the stop.
