Excellent trout fishing. North Lake is another couple miles up the road. It also offers some great fishing. Monument lakes has boat rentals and paddle board rentals also.

Free things to do.
Trinidad has some amazing history to it, there are informational plaques along the downtown sidewalks that make for a nice self guided tour. You can also catch the free Trinidad Trolley at the Colorado welcome center. There is an amazing archeological museum on the campus of Trinidad State college that is open to the public. Trinidad also has plenty of antique stores, thrift stores, and lots of other cool little shops.

Scenic highway of legends
This is a beautiful scenic drive. Take highway12 all the way from Trinidad to us highway 160. You will go through Stonewall, past Monument Lake, North Lake, Cuchara, and La Veta, you will see some amazing mountain country, with plenty of things to do along the way.
