This is a 2nd century temple dedicated to Sun God. The temple could not be completed in time, before sunrise, and hence was left as a monument. The diety was stolen and recovered which is preserved in Delhi Museum. This place is 20 km from our cottage.

This is 25 km from our cottage. A drive halfway and thereafter steep climb upto hill top which is approx 7000 ft asl. The Himalayan view is worth the effort. Also a 11th century temple has a beautiful history.

Although now this place has been aquired and barricaded by army, but an early morning walk into forest was breathtaking. We often came across Kakar, leopards, Martins, porcine, sambar, wild pigs and variety of birds.

This is 50 km from our cottage and is one.of main apple orchard garden created by British horticulturist. Special mention is for a apple variety which is only available in England. During season we can buy their produce from the sales counter. A walk into the orchard garden is worth a while.

Here, in 1814 the fort of Chand Kingdom was taken over by East India Company at behest of Nawab of Oudh, on pretext that Gurkha of Nepal will overtake the Kumaon kingdom. Also this became the epicenter of British stronghold and many derelict cottages dot the town. Here, Swami Vevakananda Robindranath Tagore stayed here. Almora is blessed as birthplace to many notable individuals such as Ronald Ross ( pioneer in malaria), Govind B Pant, Murli Manohar Joshi and many more personalities .

This is 50 km from our place and is a historic city. Here, in 1814 the fort of Chand Kingdom was taken over by East India Company at behest of Nawab of Oudh, on pretext that Gurkha of Nepal will overtake the Kumaon kingdom. Also this became the epicenter of British stronghold and many derelict cottages dot the town. Here, Swami Vevakananda Robindranath Tagore stayed here. Almora is blessed as birthplace to many notable individuals such as Ronald Ross ( pioneer in malaria), Govind B Pant, Murli Manohar Joshi and many more personalities .
This place is 70 Km from our cottage. This is a prehistoric stone age caves and upon the walls of the caves are paintings depicting animals, humans and also tectiforms, created with fingers in black, red and white. There are also a few animal motifs, one of them closely resembling a fox. Wavy lines, rectangle-filledgeometric designs and groups of dots are seen here. These paintings provide one of the richest experiences of Prehistoric art in the country. The caves have become a historically significant site. Unfortunately proper recovery and preservation is pending.

This is a 3 hr drive or roughly 90 km from our cottage. The city was a tea estate but not it has been in derelict condition. Mahatma Gandhi visited this place and he perceived the essence of purity. See no evil, hear no evil and see no evil which became the irony of monkey symbol.
Although a visit to.the temple is worth the while but for fun and night camping a nature stay can be made into the forest. If lucky, a British forest cottage can be booked or else a camp tent can be had . Early morning a trek deep into forest is worth the effort.
