Sightseeing

A collection of some of my favorite places in the city as well as must-see locations. In one way or another, these places encapsulate what New York tourism and sightseeing are all about!
Take the 7 all the way to the last stop for one of my favorite New York destinations and beautiful views. The meat packing district if one of the most beautiful and thereโ€™s always something to do once youโ€™re done walking the high line.

This (somewhat) hidden gem is one of the cutest spots in the city. Amazing views of Manhattan just across the water, and many delicious restaurants in Williamsburg sure to satisfy any foodie.

Right next to each other you have the Oculus, which is both a beautiful art installation and a shopping mall, iconic World Trade Center, and 9/11 memorial. Accessible by a slew of trains and with many surrounding attractions to discover, youโ€™ll probably want to dedicate a whole day to this spot and the surrounding area.

As the name might suggest, brooklyn bridge park is right next to the Brooklyn bridge and is a lovely spot to catch a sunset, go for a run, or sit and relax, and enjoy the nearby restaurants or your own picnic. Once youโ€™re done looking at Manhattan over the water, you can take the Ferry or walk/bike across the bridge to Manhattans seaport district.

The 7 is right across the street!

The train station should be hard to miss - just look out the window! The 7 train will serve as your access point for everything the city has to offer. Take it to Times Square for a New York tourist must-see, or one stop further to Hudson yards for pictures at the Vessel and to walk the high line on a sunny day. Once you get the hang of it, youโ€™ll quickly realize virtually all of New York is just a train transfer or two away!

So many museums!

The city has a bunch of museums for all ages and interests, including (but certainly not limited to): -Museum of Natural History -Museum of Modern Art -9/11 Memorial Museum -Guggenheim Museum -New York Transit Museum -Tenement Museum And many more!

Be on the lookout for museum discounts!

Many of the museums mentioned in the previous tip have special dates or times in which pricing is reduced, as well as discounts for students, seniors, and some even offer pay-what-you-wish pricing which allows for you to pay any price for entry. Be on the lookout to maximize your experiences without breaking the bank!

Getting on the subway with a tap

If youโ€™re unfamiliar with getting around the city, it can be a little daunting to get a metrocard. If traveling with others, keep in mind that an unlimited metrocard will only allow one swipe every 15 minutes, so only one person can use it at a time. While a prepaid card solves this issue, not all stations have booths or machines to reload the card, and getting stranded with no balance is not an ideal situation. I prefer to tap, which you can do at all MTA train stations and busses. You can tap with a smartphone, smartwatch, or a contactless-enabled bank card.
