A beautiful beach less than 20 minutes from our house which boasts loads of turtles, sometimes monk seals, most of the time good surf and always loads of kids playing in the tide pools. Respect the surf when it picks up.
Around 30 minutes drive from our house and you will arrive at this tropical paradise. There are a few different hikes to some different ponds and waterfalls. You can easily spend a few hours here. Don’t forget to try their home made coconut candy!

6300 Hana HwyAround 30 minutes drive from our house and you will arrive at this tropical paradise. There are a few different hikes to some different ponds and waterfalls. You can easily spend a few hours here. Don’t forget to try their home made coconut candy!
Sunrise is spectacular but reservations are required, unless you jump on a downhill bike tour. Sunset is just as beautiful and reservations are not required. Be prepared for freezing temperatures, strong winds and breath taking scenery.

This is a lovely way to spend a few hours getting some fresh mountain air. The hike is a good hour and the bike trails are really fun. Pack some snacks as you could spend hours here. There is a bike rental store in Makawao.

Food scene
Nuka is less than a 20 minutes drive and offers the freshest sushi, delicious udon bowls, melt in your mouth miso butterfish and the frikake ahi is a must try. Prepare for around an hour wait unless you get there early, but well worth it!

Our favorite food truck about 5 minutes up the road. Their sautéed salmon is so tasty and the garlic ahi is delicious. Pad Thai and the green curry are also favorites of ours.

The best fish burger on Maui, less than 20 minutes from Pukalani in Paia town. Their salmon burger with wasabi butter is a must have, the beers are frosty, but their tacos are great and the seafood pasta is decadent!

If you are not on a tight budget, Mama’s is a delightful spoil. Reservations are required, but the location is top notch and their food is award winning. The crab filled mac nut crusted mahi-mahi and the papaya venison are our favorites here.

Pukalani is a quiet, more local neighborhood surrounding the golf course. There is a public park within walking distance which has a pool, a tennis court, swings for the kids and one of the best skate parks in Hawaii. Right across the road from the park is our shopping center with banks, restaurants, a laundromat and a Foodland grocery store that sells a great poke bowl.
