Looking for live music in the heart of the Hill Country, head to one of my favorite places - Poodies! This is an authentic Texas honky-tonk featuring live music, "boot-scootin" dancing. Good food, cold beer, and beautiful sunsets. Music legends have performed here and it's only 15 minutes from the yurt going east on 71 towards Austin. You can also eat late here or pick it up and take it back home.

Krause Springs is a Hill Country gem owned by the same family for decades. It features a spring fed pool and natural pool fed by a gentle waterfall. Bring water shoes, a floatie, picnic basket, and a sense of adventure. Spend a few hours or a full day here. It's about 8 minutes away from the yurts.

CASH ONLY for entrance fees, though, so be sure to bring cash. The website says the fee for adults is $8. Be sure to reserve a spot, as reservations are required. It's a great experience. Definitely, search online for the website to get the latest information. Sometimes the park is closed.

Great steaks! Nice atmosphere. It's also about 15 minutes away heading east on Hwy 71. Casual, but can also be a fancy date night place. They have a great deck with nice breezes.

If you're looking for great frozen margaritas and yummy, authentic Tex Mex, visit this very casual family restaurant. I love their tortilla soup, enchiladas, tacos and grilled chicken salad with a "frozen, no salt, sangria swirl' margarita. Run by brothers, this is always a "go to" for quick, yummy Mexican food. VERY casual. Shorts, flip flops, t-shirts are fine.

I love their tortilla soup, enchiladas, tacos and grilled chicken salad with a "frozen, no salt, sangria swirl' margarita. Run by brothers, this is always a "go to" for quick, yummy Mexican food. VERY casual. Shorts, flip flops, t-shirts are fine.
Another great pizzeria with an outdoor patio perfect for taking it easy. Nice wine and beer list. I love their specialty pizzas. This is also the site of a Sunday farmers' market. Friends swear by the breakfast pizza after a morning of shopping for local goods at the market. A perfect way to spend a Sunday morning.

If you're looking for a true Texas experience that will take you back, head to the Blue Bonnet Cafe. There is often a line to get in, but it's worth it. Nothing fancy, just good Texas fare.

It's a pretty drive, too, and again, super close. There is a back way to get there, but follow directions on your GPS. It takes about 20 minutes. They typically offer cheese trays and snacks.
The wine they serve here is actually from Argentina. You'll enjoy their Argentinian BBQ and beautiful wines on the terrace. A quaint winery, it is a local favorite.

I recommend searching here if you need more than what Marble Falls offers. Once a sleepy retirement community, its a full blown city now. Head to the Lakeway Marina to rent boats, paddle boards, or even hire a driver and wake board and ski. You can also hire a sailboat and take a sunset cruise. It's one of the largest lakes in Texas. There are several restaurants on the lake. My favorite is Sundancer Grill or Canyon Grill.

I recommend searching here if you need more than what Marble Falls offers. Once a sleepy retirement community, its a full blown city now. Head to the Lakeway Marina to rent boats, paddle boards, or even hire a driver and wake board and ski. You can also hire a sailboat and take a sunset cruise. It's one of the largest lakes in Texas. There are several restaurants on the lake. My favorite is Sundancer Grill or Canyon Grill.

On the way, you'll drive by dozens of unique wineries. My favorites are William Chris and Signor, but there are soooo many. Plan on spending a day doing this.

One of my favorite cities in Texas is Fredericksburg. The Germans settled this town and you can feel the influence everywhere. FANTASTIC restaurants, shopping, galleries, etc. can be found here. On the way, you'll drive by dozens of unique wineries. My favorites are William Chris and Signor, but there are soooo many. Plan on spending a day doing this.
Home to President Lyndon B. Johnson's ranch, Johnson City is on the way to Fredericksburg. Some say it's the next Fredericksburg. I love the vibe here. Good shopping and restaurants. It's 30 minutes from the yurt.

I also highly recommend Barton Springs, Zilker Park, the Texas Capitol grounds, the walking trail around Lady Bird Johnson lake, also known by locals as Town Lake. You can rent paddle boards, and paddle boats, kayaks, etc. Always a good time! I love to dance at a place called the White Horse Saloon where you can dress up in your favorite country vintage and learn to dance to live country music or watch the professionals! I've met people from all over the world here. The Canadians and Italians seem to really like it! East Austin is full of amazing restaurants... too many to name here. Explore! My favorite is Licha's.

Bring comfortable clothes, closed-toe shoes.
Think casual!! Shorts, t-shirts, jeans, sundresses, flip-flops, bathing suits, tennis shoes, cowboy boots, hats. The look in the Texas Hill Country and Central Texas is casual. Here at the yurts, you'll want to wear closed-toe shoes. You're in the country and you'll want to keep your piggies covered when walking on the trails and exploring the creek beds here at Moonacre. I also provide complimentary use of cotton kaftans (MuuMuus) that are fabulous for relaxing and walking the land.

Local wineries, live music, parks, lakes.
Search lakes near me, parks near me, wineries near me. You can't go wrong. Muleshoe Bend park is about 15 minutes away. You can dip into Lake Travis at Narrows Recreation Park. Pedernales State Park and Longhorn Caverns and Balcones Canyonlands are good places to hike!

Reserve your spot to tour parks and watering holes
Check the state parks to see if you need a reservation to get in. Some require this to limit the impact on the environment. I highly recommend you check out the magazine website 101highlandlakes to learn about the parks, lakes, local watering holes and places to rent boats and kayaks. Inks Lake and Lake LBJ are two favorites.
