What: Massive park home to one of the world’s most active volcanoes Where: 45 minutes south of Hilo Experience some of nature’s most awe-inspiring wonders at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Located 45 miles southwest of Hilo, the park is home to two volcanoes including Kilauea, one of the most active volcanoes on earth. The chance to witness the primal process of creation and destruction makes it one of the most popular visitor attractions in Hawaii and a sacred place. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park encompasses 335,259 acres or about 523 square miles from the summit of Maunaloa to the sea (by comparison, the island of Oahu is 597 square miles). Discover 150 miles of hiking trails through volcanic craters, scalded deserts and rainforests, as well as a visitor center, petroglyphs and two active volcanoes: Maunaloa, which last erupted in 1984 and and Kilauea which last erupted in 2018 (1983-2018). Kilauea is often called "the world's only drive-in volcano." At one time, this prolific volcano produced 250,000-650,00 cubic yards of lava per day - enough to resurface a 20-mile-long, two-lane road each day. As of January 1983, more than 875 acres of new land has been created on the island of Hawaii.

ʻAkaka Falls State Park is a state park on Hawaiʻi Island, in the U.S. state of Hawaii. The park is about 11 miles north of Hilo, west of Honomū off the Hawaii Belt Road at the end of Hawaii Route 220. It includes its namesake ʻAkaka Falls, a 442-foot tall waterfall. ʻAkaka is named after Chief 'Akaka-o-ka-nī'au-oi'o-i-ka-wao, grandson of Kūlanikapele and Kīakalohia. The accessible portion of the park lies high on the right shoulder of the deep gorge into which the waterfall plunges, and the falls can be viewed from several points along a loop trail through the park. Also visible from this trail is Kahūnā Falls, a 300-foot tall waterfall, and several smaller cascades.

From Jackie Rays: Jackie Rey's Ohana Grill is a casual local's joint featuring fresh seafood, steaks, pasta and a variety of salads at affordable prices. The restaurant (named after our daughter) is the culmination of much hard work and the dedication of ourselves and our crew. After 12 years of success in Kona, we weren't looking to expand. But…This stunning restaurant space in the Historic Kaikodo building “spoke to us”! This Hilo landmark was built in 1907 as the Hilo Masonic Lodge Hall and was the original home to the Bank of Hilo. To this day there’s a classic old bank vault and an incredible crafted 150 year English bar inside the restaurant. It’s really is cool. We invite you to be our guests and experience great food and old fashioned hospitality, island style. Come dine with us and experience true island hospitality in a historic setting. Angie and Paul-Proprietors of your Local Ohana Grill. Established in Kona 2004 and 2016 in Hilo.
