It is a very relaxed place for a beer or a meal, I usually have my beer fillet every Sunday with them. Also great for tea and a cake in the afternoon. You can walk there from the house and walk back up after the meal to digest!!

When we invite you to the Škerlj Tourist Farm, of course we also invite you to our table, which is full of delicacies prepared according to home-made recipes from home-made ingredients. We grow fruits and vegetables in our own garden, and we also use our own wine, cured meat products, honey and other gifts from our farming for all dishes. In preparing the dish, we rely on traditional Karst traditions and our own recipes, in which we have unlocked many secrets of good cuisine. We use the experience of our grandparents in the cultivation of the home so that we can offer you extremely delicious culinary experiences at any time of the year. So in the spring we enjoy dishes with čemaž, asparagus, nettle and lemon balm, in the autumn we indulge in a rich palette of flavors of chestnuts, pumpkins and mushrooms, and in the winter fresh sausages, krodige, cracklings and tlačenka. During Easter, of course, there is no shortened cooked shoulder on the table.

A truly unique culinary experience. This small family run business uses solely local seasonal ingredients with excellent results. It is pricey but totally worth it. We go on special occasions, as the whole experience takes about 3 hours.

I love getting here on a Saturday after a walk from Tomaj - the walk is varied, beautiful and entertaining. The views are magic, their welcome is truly warm and friendly. The foos is simple but absolutely unforgettable. You need to ring and book.

I love cycling here from Tomaj. The long paths in the local Gmajna (landa carsica) are full of interesting flora and as you get closer to Volcj Grad you really feel time dissolving. You go back 100 years, as everything seems to have stopped then. This farmhouse is a true gem. Small family, very loving, very committed, very welcoming.

Srečko Kosovel (1904–1926) was a poet, critic and publicist, one of the most important Slovenian poets. Kosovel's creative period was very short, but extremely intense. His poetic oeuvre has, among other things, the characteristics of Impressionism, Constructivism and Futurism. He was born and lived in this house till his very early death. He wrote with passion and love about Karst, you have one of his poetry books in the house . The lady who looks after the house is a relative of the family, she has kept it immaculately. It is very interesting to visit to have a glimpse of what life was life under the Austro-hungarian empire, when languages, religions and culture were coexisting peacefully and art, literature and music were treasured as much as bread and milk.

Wonderful activity to discover the history of Tomaj! Take Karra's Escape Room activity! While driving from Sežana to Nova Gorica, you can see one of the most beautiful, typical Karst villages on the slope of Tabor Hill. Many travellers only pass through it since it is not a showy tourist destination. In reality, Tomaj hides startling historical wealth and a treasure chest of breathtaking stories. In the past it was an important administrative, cultural, economic, educational and religious centre of not only the Karst but also the broader region on both sides of today’s state border. Narrow alleys, stone wells, village ponds, incredible views and panoramas at all four points of the compass beckon you to visit the Karst. With the help of Victoria, Kosovel and Karlo, you will unveil its many secrets!

We love going to Stanjel cycling from home. The village is the only medieval fortress on Karst and is beautifully maintained. It has no running water till about 10 years ago. It has incredible views, it is very charming, with a great restaurant bar in the piazza and lots of interesting villagers who will be happy to talk to you. It first enchants visitors with its unique panorama. But as soon as you come closer to the mighty castle, take a walk along narrow stone alleys and enter the Ferrari Garden, it wins your heart forever. Štanjel is unique. Štanjel has so many stories to tell and so many hidden nooks which, if you are not a native, are difficult to discover. Among the picturesque houses, seemingly so quiet, there is always something going on. In the galleries – yes, there are quite a few of them – the works of art dream their quiet dreams. In a company of a local tourist guide, a journey through different dimensions of Štanjel will always be a one-of-a-kind experience.

I love the thrill of walking into the belly of the earth, along this underground river which is roaring, mighty and scary whilst you walk above it on a bridge. The Stalagtites and mites are unbelievably beautiful, it is a work of art. an example of contact karst that was formed at the juncture of impermeable flysch and permeable limestone; when describing collapse dolines, karstologists based their writing on Velika and Mala dolina and the term is currently used in the international karstic terminology (collapse dolines); numerous karst phenomena have developed in this small area (sink holes, natural bridges, gorges, potholes, collapse dolines, abysses, underground canyon, passages covered with flowstone deposits, springs etc.) (UNESCO criteria a-i);

Informazioni sulla città/località

Beautiful little stone village with great views. The oldest stonemason still active in the village. Also an interesting circular walk with info on local stone and traditions. From the village website: A Karst educational trail through a typical landscape This interesting circular trail starts in the centre of the Pliskovica village and is marked by a sheep, the symbol of the village, carved into stone. These special marks lead to a gmajna grassland, passing by many dry-stone walls built by the local people at a time the rocky landscape was turned into meadows, pastures and fields. You can learn about the special features of karst gmajna and its autochthonous birds from the information boards found at several points along the trail, and discover what ponds and puddles were used for in the past and why they are still important today. The trial is highly educational, while also providing a pleasant walk across the gmajna grasslands.

Volčji Grad is a truly fascinating village. It was in this village for 200 years that two families of stonecutters created the portals of the whole Karst, and they can still be seen today. You can see the remains of the 3500-year-old castle, learn about the events of the various millennial invasions. You can taste the local honey, and visit some very ancient and still inhabited houses. You should have lunch at the Volcji Grad biodynamic farmhouse.
