Historic 1935 five-story cafeteria downtown with whacky decor including stuffed antelope, bears and mountain lions. Totally renovated in 2015. The food is inconsistent, but you can walk right in past the line at the door, wander around to gaze at the giant redwood tree and the waterfall, and have a cocktail or a beer at one of the many bars. Be sure to explore all of the nooks and crannies.

This park studded with beautiful oak trees is just one mile from our place and features a new skate park, children's playgrounds, ball fields and a dog park. Nice for picnics.

World-famous amphitheater is the summer home of the LA Philharmonic. It seats 17,000, with concerts almost every night of the summer, June through mid-October. Jazz, rock, classical, musicals, opera, pop...it's all at the Bowl. Bring a picnic or buy food there. A must-see experience, even the cheap seats in the back.
